Connecticut Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy
What is Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy?
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT)is an alternative medical treatment in which high doses of oxygen is delivered to the body by breathing 100% Oxygen through a mask while in a pressurized air chamber. The purpose is to dissolve high concentrations of oxygen in the blood and tissues. The increased oxygenation from hyperbaric oxygen therapy allows for many health benefits, such as cell growth and regeneration, detoxification, immune support, new capillary growth, and improved neurological functioning.
Effects of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy:
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy is considered off-label treatment for certain conditions. These conditions include autism, traumatic brain injury, stroke, multiple sclerosis, chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, chronic viral infections, chronic lyme disease, wound-healing, seizures, and headaches. Although Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy has been reported to be beneficial for a wide range of conditions, it is not meant as a cure for any condition or disease, and no therapeutic outcomes are guaranteed.
Side Effects of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy
Some of the side effects of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy include headache or nausea, drowsiness, hyperactivity, dizziness, claustrophobia, vision-blur, otic barotrauma, pulmonary hyperexpansion, die-off reaction.

What to expect when inside the oxygen chamber
You will be asked to put on the oxygen mask. During the first 10 minutes of the treatment, the air pressure in the chamber will be increased gradually until it reaches the prescribed amount. You will hear air going into the oxygen chamber, and you will feel a sensation of pressure in your ears, similar to that experienced during an airplane trip and when going up high altitudes. This is normal. You will need to clear your ears several times during this compression. To equalize this pressure in your ears, some of the methods you may use are yawning, swallowing, attempt to blow thru your nose while closing your mouth and holding your nose closed.
During most of your treatment time, you may relax, read a book, or sleep. The session will last 30 minutes to an hour, depending on the recommendation of your doctor.
During the last 10 or so minutes of the treatment, the pressure in the chamber will be decreased gradually. You may again feel a popping in your ears. Your ears will clear automatically. It is important not to hold your breath during this time.
