ABTC sponsors the bi-annual Free Badminton Clinic for Special Needs individuals
Dr. Comia is the mother of three children, one of whom is an adult who is recovering from Autism. Julian is her inspiration and guiding-light and the reason for her "out of the box" approach to treating illness. Realizing that other families have similar unmet needs, she encouraged her two other children to start up Sports4SpecialNeeds - an organization of teenagers who spend recreational time with disabled individuals by teaching them simple, fun sports that they can easily learn. It was founded by Carlo and Elaina Comia in the summer of 2012 with the Badminton Clinic as the first event. Children and adults in the Autism Spectrum usually have weak upper motor skills and hand-eye coordination making ball-handling difficult. Surprisingly, they noticed that their brother Julian picked-up badminton quite easily. This gave them the idea to share the fun of the sport with other special needs individuals.
The event has been very successful with the support of Flatbread Company (Canton) who provides gluten-free, organic, all natural pizzas for the participants; Stop and Shop in Simsbury for the Nature's Promise refreshments in past events. Fundraising events organized by Carlo and Elaina Comia have helped to procure badminton racquets, shuttlecocks, and t-shirts for the special needs athletes and participants.
The Badminton Clinic is held twice a year at the Henry James Memorial School (Simsbury, CT). If you would like to participate or donate, kindly email email@example.com.

Badminton Free Clinic IX - August 6, 2016
Thank you so much to everyone who came out last Saturday! The day was a huge success as our athletes and volunteers came together to make new friends, gain experience in a fun activity, and have a great time. Also, on the strength of many generous donations, we were able to raise over $175 for FAVARH! We are so grateful to have such wonderful people supporting the special needs community.
Special thanks also to Advance Biomedical Treatment Center, Stop & Shop, Walmart, Shop-Rite, and Flatbread Company for providing food and beverage for the event. Additionally, thanks to B.Good and another kind donor, we held our first raffle, with three lucky winners coming away with various gift cards.
We look forward to seeing many of you again in November for our 10th Badminton event!

TYPHOON HAIYAN VICTIMS IN THE PHILIPPINES
ABTC proudly sponsored a wristband fundraising event to benefit the victims of the most powerful and devastating typhoon that ever struck the world, Typhoon Haiyan. All proceeds were given directly to a group of physicians who volunteered to serve the many communities affected.
ABTC also helped gather old clothes, shoes, canned goods, and personal hygiene items for the victims in the Philippines, Dr. Comia's country of origin.
Response to this fundraising event was overwhelming and heartwarming. Sincere appreciation to those who expressed their concern and who donated in kind or cash. Let us continue to keep the spirit of caring aflame.
